Do you have excellent attention to detail?
Looking for a leadership role with animal health management at the forefront?
Assistant Production Manager (3IC) role – Earnslaw Farm – Taupo
If you’re an ambitious Dairy Assistant who’s looking for an opportunity to take on more responsibility, check out this Assistant Production Manager role at Earnslaw.
Organic farms must keep excellent records to get and keep their “certified” status, particularly as it pertains to animal health. Earnslaw is scheduled to receive their organic certification in October 2019 so while this process is almost completed, the record keeping will continue indefinitely. This means that a detail oriented APM is needed to lead animal health management awareness and data entry duties at the farm. As the record keeping is done in a number of formal and informal ways (whiteboards to tablets to computers), someone who is tech savvy is a must. You’ll make sure that boards and records are up to date, correct, and that the rest of the team are aware of the information as well as contributing to its upkeep.
We’ll look to this APM to lead animal health and safety as well as monitor compliance aspects. You’ll keep the team motivated to maintain a good health and safety culture by leading tool box meetings. Updating the lean boards and making sure that safety reporting (near misses, etc.) are ongoing is critical.
You’ll be actively upskilled in pasture management and animal health care so that you can support the team as well as the 2IC and Farm Manager in the day to day running of the Farm. You’ll develop leadership, team building, and communication skills as part of your duties, and can receive training in these skills if you’d like.
One last unique aspect of an organic farm is that half of the farm is a dairy farm and half is dry stock. You’ll be responsible for caring for young stock as well as the milkers. This gives us a unique opportunity to have complete oversight for the management of our animals (900 cows – 870 of which are the milking herd).
Earnslaw Organic Farm is located less than 15 minutes from Taupo and will milk 860 cows through a 54 bail rotary shed.
You will bring:
- Solid dairy farming experience
- The ability to work unsupervised in a team environment
- Effective communication skills
- First class attitude to Health and Safety and Animal Welfare
- Self-motivation, initiative and a passion for dairy farming
- Restricted or full driver’s licence
