- Looking to grow your skills as a Dairy Assistant?
- Want to work with dairy cows and younger stock?
- Dairy Assistant – 1 to 2 yrs exp – Taupo area – Earnslaw Organic farm - Taupo
Are you a Dairy Assistant who would love to manage young stock as they grow and develop? Part of the organic farm method is keeping young stock stay on the farm along with the milking herd. This means that you’ll be shifting cows and young stock as well as being actively involved in (and receive training for) animal health treatment.
Our next DA will have experience working in dairy and will be eager to learn and grow. Your positive attitude will mean that you’ll embrace the unique environment of this farm. Organic farms have a higher requirement for record keeping – which keeps the Farm Manager quite busy. This means that this role is a little more varied than your standard DA role. Your day to day will involve bringing the cows in for milking, doing the milking, shifting both the cows and the young stock, etc. You’ll be trained to provide / administer homeopathic treatment as well as marking to keep our cows healthy. You’ll receive additional training for treating lame cows. Most importantly, we’re all about keeping our animals healthy with positive preventative treatment. Excellent animal husbandry skills as well as a high standard of health and safety will be the keys to success in this role.
We have a robust health and safety regime at Pamu, and have well maintained, up to date farm equipment that you’ll be able to use. After your competency assessed and safety trained, you’ll be able to use the ute, tractor, side by side, two wheeler, etc., to get your job done.
The leadership on this farm is stable and we’re looking to build an enthusiastic and tight knit group of Dairy Assistants who know how to get the work done while supporting each other.
Earnslaw Organic Farm is located less than 15 minutes from Taupo and will milk 860 cows through a 54 bail rotary shed.
You will bring:
- 1-2 years Dairy Assistant experience
- Eager and willingness to learn
- Effective communication skills
- First class attitude to Health and Safety and Animal Welfare
- Self-motivation, initiative and a passion for dairy farming
- Restricted or full driver’s licence
