Head Shepherd/Dairy Finishing Specialist-Orakonui

Central Plateau - Taupo

Looking for the chance to progress your career? We are seeking an experienced Shepherd and a dairy finishing specialist to accept the challenge and join our team on Orakonui. This is a 2,980 ha dairy support/beef finishing property split over several land blocks and is located a short 10 minute drive from Taupo. Stock units include 2,000 lambs, 1400+ bulls, 3,000 dairy heifers, wintering 7,000 cows, and 1,500 beef steers.

We are a fun working and learning environment with an awesome team culture including 5 permanent staff and casuals as required. These roles involve managing your own block, and further developing your intensive pasture and animal management skills. You will be responsible for pasture management, live weight production and maintenance of your own block.

Accommodation is provided for these and the location provides easy access to a range of outdoor recreational activities with schooling nearby, and school bus pick up from the farm gate. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is quick to think on their feet and is not afraid to step out of their comfort zone.

You will bring: 

  • Passion for dairy and beef finishing with a positive attitude
  • 2-4 well trained working dogs;
  • Leadership potential and the ability to work in a team or unsupervised;
  • Dairy finishing expertise would be an advantage;
  • First class attitude to Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Management;
  • Effective communication skills and strong attention to detail;
  • Current and full NZ driver’s licence.
