We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-driven Senior Shepherd to join our team at Cheltenham Downs.
The stock policies on Cheltenham Downs involve approx. 3,000 bought in ewes lambing, approx. 30,000 lambs finished in season, a winter lamb programme, plus grazing of dairy heifer replacements from the Pamu dairy portfolio. Cheltenham is an important finishing operation which has stock supplied from other Pamu breeding farms within the North Island. There is an increasing component of cash cropping on the property, for example maize and barley, plus use of specialised forages such as plantain and Lucerne.
This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual, who is keen to learn and accept responsibility and advance within a progressive organisation.
As well as working on the main farm block you will be responsible for the day to day running of a near-by separate 280 ha block, which is where the house for this position is located.
What you will bring:
- Excellent pasture management and feed budgeting skills
- Self Driven
- Ability to keep up-to-date and accurate records
- 2-3 working dogs under good command
- Effective communication skills
- Commitment to high standards of quality and safety
- Current and full NZ drivers license
