Stock Manager

Central Plateau - Taupo

  • Are you a stock manager who enjoys mentoring others?
  • Do you have ambitions to farm management?
  • Are you interested in tech advancements and their application in genetics farming?

If you’re a tech-savvy, curious and ambitious Stock Manager who’s looking for a growth opportunity, this could be the perfect role for you.  If you enjoy considering what “could be” in the world of farming, rather than settling for the status quo, this could be right up your alley.  If tech advancements in farming interest you and you’d like to take part in implementing these tech solutions, then look no further!

We’re looking for a confident Stock Manager for one of our newly established genetics properties near Taupo (part of the Wairakei Estate).  You’ll enjoy mentoring and motivating others and have a demonstrated track record of developing your own technical skills as well as the technical skills of your teammates.  Due to the leadership / growth potential of this role, we really need someone who is as passionate about farming as they are about how transformational change can benefit day-to-day farming operations.

You’ll be inquisitive, self-directed and ambitious, know what’s expected of you on a day to day basis and be able to deliver operationally, as well as be open to new ways of thinking and doing things.

This Stock Manager role looks after roughly 300 breeding cows on one of our genetics properties.  This is also a finishing operation for approximately 3,000 sheep dairy young stock.  You’ll have the day to day responsibilities of a stock manager (manual handling requirements necessary for a cattle genetics program) as well as the opportunity to work closely with key stakeholders to achieve Pamu’s corporate strategy initiatives.  You’ll also host meetings on-farm with external stakeholders, scientists, Wellington staff, etc.  which will give you an amazing opportunity to learn and develop expertise in the genetics farming environment.

You’ll have a passion for innovation and how its application benefits farming as well as the resilience required to implement, experiment, and adapt on-farm when the time comes.

We don’t require experience working on a genetics farm, but an understanding of the value of genetics operations is critical.  There is a bit more record keeping that is required as part of the genetics process, so strong attention to detail of a must for our successful candidate.  Experience with FarmIQ and in-depth data entry / management would be a plus.

The farm is located 25mins north of the Taupo, part of the Wairakei Estate.

Pamu is recognised within New Zealand and internationally as standing for best practice and sustainability.  We have a strong culture of safety and respect for the land, our people, and the animals under our care.  We’re a State-Owned-Enterprise with a nationwide portfolio of farms that produce milk, beef, lamb, wool, venison, deer velvet, wood and more.  Pamu strives to be a leader in New Zealand agriculture, carefully creating natural products of high quality.

To be eligible for this role, you must be available for an in-person interview and have unrestricted legal rights to work in New Zealand.

Applications for this role will not be accepted after Tuesday, 17th September 2019.  If you have any questions or would like to have a confidential conversation, feel free to email get in touch with Nancy Ford at fordn@landcorp.co.nz
